A range hood that will not start, has weak airflow, makes excessive noise, has failed lights or stops responding can often be repaired. TRC Experts provides diagnosis and repair for residential kitchen ventilation equipment.
Kitchen hoods combine a blower motor, switches or electronic controls, lighting and ventilation components. Weak performance can also come from dirty filters, blocked ducts or a damper problem, so it is important to separate an appliance failure from an airflow or installation issue.
We check the blower motor, switches, control board, wiring and power supply symptoms.
Low airflow may involve the motor, filters, damper, duct restriction or an installation-related condition.
Rattling, scraping or excessive vibration can be caused by the blower wheel, motor bearings, loose mounting or debris.
During diagnosis, the technician can inspect the hood controls, fan speeds, blower wheel, motor operation, lighting circuit, filters, visible wiring and damper movement. If airflow remains weak even though the hood itself is operating normally, the duct route or exterior vent may need separate attention.
Ducted hoods move air outside through a vent system, while recirculating hoods filter and return air to the room. The diagnostic approach differs because a recirculating hood relies heavily on clean filters, while a ducted system can lose performance because of restrictions, damper issues or poor ducting in addition to appliance faults.
Note which fan speeds and lights still work and whether the hood makes a specific sound. If possible, have the model number available. Clean grease filters if they are heavily loaded, but do not disassemble the motor or electrical controls. If there is a burning smell, visible arcing or repeated breaker tripping, stop using the hood until it is inspected.
We also service electric cooktops, stoves and ranges, ovens and over-the-range microwaves across Toronto and the GTA.
Dirty filters, a weak blower motor, a blocked duct, stuck damper or restrictive installation can all reduce airflow.
On many models, yes. Part availability and access depend on the brand and model, so diagnosis is the best first step.
The cause may be bulbs or LED modules, sockets, switches, wiring or an electronic control. We check the circuit before recommending parts.
We service many common residential range hood configurations. Send the brand, model and a photo when booking if the hood is built into custom cabinetry.
Share the brand, model and symptom so we can arrange the right type of service visit.
Our diagnostic service is FREE when the repair is completed.
If the repair is not completed for any reason, including unavailable parts or a decision not to proceed, a diagnostic fee of $69–$129 applies according to our price list.
We offer free preliminary estimates over the phone when all necessary information is provided. If an on-site inspection is required, our standard diagnostic policy applies.
Our technicians carry commonly used parts to help complete many repairs on the first visit. Specialized parts may need to be ordered.
Repair labour, parts and any applicable tax are quoted separately before work begins. Warranty terms for completed repairs are confirmed on your estimate or invoice.
