If an electric cooktop will not heat, heats unevenly, shows an error, has a burner that stays on, or the controls stop responding, TRC Experts can diagnose the problem and explain the repair options before parts are replaced.
Electric cooktops combine high-current heating circuits with switches, sensors, electronic controls and glass or ceramic surfaces. A symptom that looks like a failed element can also be caused by a switch, relay, wiring connection, temperature sensor or control board. Accurate diagnosis helps avoid replacing the wrong part.
We check the element, power supply, burner switch, wiring and control output to determine why a cooking zone stays cold.
Slow heating, cycling problems or a zone that cannot reach normal temperature may involve an element, sensor, connection or control issue.
Touch controls, displays and electronic modules can fail or report faults. We verify the symptom before recommending a control component.
Our technician starts with the reported symptom and the cooktop model information. Depending on the design, diagnosis may include the incoming electrical supply, terminal connections, surface elements, infinite switches, relays, sensors, control boards, cooling fans and visible wiring. If the glass is cracked or physically damaged, we also check whether repair is practical based on part availability and the condition of the appliance.
Residential cooktops use different heating technologies and control systems. Radiant glass cooktops typically use electric surface elements beneath ceramic glass. Some premium units use more complex electronic controls, and induction cooktops use power electronics and compatible cookware rather than a conventional radiant element. The correct diagnostic process depends on the model, fault code and electrical design.
If it is safe to do so, note which cooking zone is affected, whether the issue happens every time, and any error code shown on the display. The model and serial number are also useful because parts can vary even within the same product line. If the cooktop is sparking, smells burned, repeatedly trips the breaker or has damaged wiring, stop using it until it can be inspected.
Many cooktop problems are repairable, especially when the failure is limited to an element, switch, sensor or replaceable control component. Replacement may make more sense when the glass is severely damaged, several major components have failed, parts are no longer available, or the estimated repair is not reasonable for the age and condition of the appliance. We can diagnose the unit first and give you the information needed to decide.
TRC Experts also provides stove and range repair, oven repair, range hood repair and other household appliance services across our Toronto and GTA service area.
A failed element is one possibility, but the issue can also be a burner switch, relay, wiring connection, sensor or electronic control. Testing is needed to confirm the cause.
The glass top is normally replaced rather than repaired. Availability and cost depend on the exact model, and the cooktop should not be used if the damage creates an electrical or safety concern.
Yes, appointments are available across Toronto and the GTA. Building access, parking or service-elevator requirements can be shared when booking.
Same-day appointments may be available depending on location, technician schedule and the type of appliance. Contact us with the model and symptom and we will confirm the earliest available window.
Tell us the cooktop brand, model if available, and what the appliance is doing. We will help arrange a diagnostic visit in Toronto or the GTA.
Our diagnostic service is FREE when the repair is completed.
If the repair is not completed for any reason, including unavailable parts or a decision not to proceed, a diagnostic fee of $69–$129 applies according to our price list.
We offer free preliminary estimates over the phone when all necessary information is provided. If an on-site inspection is required, our standard diagnostic policy applies.
Our technicians carry commonly used parts to help complete many repairs on the first visit. Specialized parts may need to be ordered.
Repair labour, parts and any applicable tax are quoted separately before work begins. Warranty terms for completed repairs are confirmed on your estimate or invoice.
